Garden Dinner Party!

In an experimental mode, this send off event 

began a whole new era in the Lore.

Like the cookies last winter, FOOD once again stole the show.

Cyclists and their friends like food.

Despite record heat, this garden dinner enjoyed a nearbye sprinkler and kiddie pool with little flower-candles floating on a two-by-four.

Now that

the Staff 

at The Ranch 

are

getting the hang of it, 

they want to have 

a play date Family affair 

of the most 

Deysh Kormendy small, 

to Danny O'Brien medium, 

to Elliot Word big, 

to The Juniors bored, 

kind of  Brentwood Park 

brunch time 

exercise in fun. 

A little different than this hot summer suarez.

Rather, the next big Atomic Ranch Summertime event will be a social celebration of the little and the young and the families they are attached to. 

Food on one side of the fence 

and 

a jungle-gym extravaganza on the other. 

Some bmx bikes will be provided.

Individual Time Trial?

THE 

RACE 

OF 

TRUTH

is 

what 

traditionally 

the Europeans 

call this 

simple event.

If they are right, 

then I now 

better understand 

why some humans choose

to be delusional, live a lie, etc. because riding alone, hunched deep down over a set of aero bars, sucks, plain and simple. Who want's the truth?

It is hard on you. 

It hurts, 

and it feels demoralizing while it is happening. 

Especially when

one of the many TT specialists out there in the Oregon Territory 

comes flying by you on one of their $5,000 ($10,000) super aero bikes.

Everyone who participated suffered, especially R.Word, 

who led the way for Cyclisme with our fastest time. This event was especially popular amongst the elder set of the Oregon Peloton. The Masters divisions were huge.

When arguments like, "it's good for you to ride alone" are all we had to motivate us,  maybe some wondered on this trip "what are we doing?" 

But soon, it all became apparent when  Naiqwan won his silver medal. 

He was so happy about that medal, he beamed a smile from ear to ear. 

This is what Cyclisme and b.i.k.e. are all about.

But meanwhile, adding to the suffering, perhaps in my own delusional state, maybe exacerbated by the uncertainty driving down I-5 wondering if we were even going to get scored BAR points signing up "day of", I ran out of gas AGAIN, after the race, on the way to grandma's house.

So embarrassing for me, Randy and Malachi saved the day. With Randy driving off to Corvallis and Mr. Byrd hitting up the local farmers for some Good Samaritism we had plenty of petrol in no time. Wheew!

All's well that ends well.

After the Individual 

Time 

Trial

State Champs in Peoria we stopped in at the elder Hansens home, 

just a couple miles down the road, 

and they fed us well!

Uncle Mark,

Grandma Margaret, and Grandpa "Pap"

were all as sweet as pie. And pizza pies are just part of what they fed us. 

Before the race they gave us hydrating ripe watermelon that saved our minds from frying in the Willamette Valley heat. They also set us up with distilled water and coffee for Alex and I.

Afterwards, we stopped in for cheese burgers and cokes with all the fixins. For those that were still hungry, they ate pizza pies.

Wheelchair accessable, they even had an electric scooter for me to use. Wow!

With great conversation, air conditioning, and a baseball game on the TV, it was a little slice of Heaven before the long drive home.

If you think you are a climber, and even if you are not; 

you missed it.

So 

beautiful,

so 

cool, even

on a hot day.

This sacred forest climb is one for the race journal.

Perhaps like Ventoux someone should make a pack race up this historic climb.

Bobby Dixon in his first race, Eric Lanners in his first race back from Minnesota, and Aubery Edwards in his first Hillclimb TT all marveled at the sheer intensity of such an event.

With two pros 

in the pack 

and a 

Junior National Team member 

finishing ahead of them, 

Jake was in rarified air, 

but he finished 5th on the day overall

 and 2nd in the Cat. 3s. 

Bedford was right on his wheel, 3rd in the Cat 3s.

Eric Lanners who had never been up there before 

got lost twice, coming in a respectable 55th. 

Can you believe the day he must have had?

Reaching Goals 

feels good.

When Jake came up from the PSU Running world into the PSU Cycling Club and then to Cyclisme, he knew he wanted to get better at riding his bike.

He knew wanted to win a Tabor Race, become a Category 3, and he knew he wanted to wear a State Champ jersey.

Nowadays he enjoys all of the above. As the Cat 4 Individual Pursuit Champ, he wears the jersey, and after winning a week of Tabor in the 3s he finished 2nd Overall. 

But individual accolades have not been his trademark, having worked for his teammate Stephen Bedford he has gone from pack scared, to pack savvy!

Now a strong team is coalescing finally in the Cat 3s the way they practiced it in Rocky Rabbit days last winter.

"It's sort of a dream come true for me, and it feels good," says Jake.

out enough points to Place him in all but first in the Cat 3 Overall BAR. 

Sprinting over Skyline Blvd as if it were nothing last winter, his skills were well placed at the track this summer. He has scored as a Master and as a Cat 3. In last Sunday's Alpenrose Velodrome Challange featuring TRIPLE BAR POINTS he scored more than some small countries.

Thanks to his winter work ethic and patience with his crew, he will be rewarded with a strong band of Cat 3 compatriots to aid him on the road and the track.
